Every Other Word

Let's be honest, when I was told there would be an opportunity to dump paint, Holi powder and 20lbs of bouncy balls on these guys, I didn't hesitate to put my good aim to use. The Noise FM's first music video has been a long time coming but thanks to some fine folks at Rhapsody Productions and a lot of lead paint, it is complete. In between fist fulls of neon powder, I shot a few [hundred] stills from the pristine start to the disheveled end. It's been several weeks and the song now plays as white noise in the back of my mind but I hope this is just the beginning to many more visual feasts from these boys. 

 And so, the "Every Other Word" music video.

Hope & Heart.

This fair-haired siren is the sister of a good friend of mine who recently relocated to California. Grace Weber has a voice like honey and when I found out that she and her brother would be passing through Evanston for a show with Ben Taylor at SPACE, I didn't hesitate. In 4th grade, Grace joined an inner city gospel choir and it shows; the girl has soul. I spent my early years as the shy "white girl" in an inner city public school so in a strange way, the juxtaposition between her delicate appearance and soulful vocals remind me of my upbringing. But Grace is a force and her expressive gestures kept me on my toes with my camera.

Archie from Archie Powell & Exports. I happily assisted them on their quest for a new album cover to go along with their new tunes that will be released soon. Ended up with a lot of outtakes of this guy. Not a bad thing.

Pushed beginnings

     Blogging is nothing new to me. I think I started somewhere in between losing the oval-shaped, wire-framed glasses (unfortunate period of my life) and getting braces. Betwixt the end of high school and beginning of college, I stopped and gave myself to journal writing. So now the familiar Blogger New Post welcomes me back but this time my goal is some graphic-heavy subject matter (that sounds more vulgar than I intend). Considering my draw to photography & my final hours in studio art courses, I need a visible outlet to keep me inspired about what I love. Also having the ability to expand on a photo's narrative & share my work farther than Facebook makes for happy times.

The talented musician Hawley Shoffner has advised me multiple times to start a blog. Recently I took some portraits of her to blossom some publicity fortune. There were an overwhelming amount of beautiful shots but we narrowed down a few to use on a postcard she had my design.

Here are a few edits plus the final choice (#4 duh, you can't say no to those eyes). Thanks to Overnight Prints, we got our cake (rounded corners) and ate it too.
